Web Literacy

As technology becomes more prominent in our day and age, it is important for teachers, students and parents to understand that technology can change the way we learn.  Through digtial citizenship, students will safely and effectively use the 21st Century Skills to enhance their learning!

Digital Citizenship

The following link provides an overview of what Digital Citizenship is and the lessons that will be taught to students to ensure they understand how to safely use technology in the classroom.  We will go over such topics as, cyberbullying, social media, copyrights, and privacy rules.  As we move through the school year, students will be constantly tested of what it means to be a digital citizen.  we will discuss these issues as we  use new programs and apps.  We will also have a few guest speakers in throughout the year to talk about these topics.

Throughout the school year, the students can expect to use a variety of websites, programs and applications to support the curriculum.  Below, are links to many of the educational technology apps and websites that will provide you with more information as to what they are and how they will be used.  if you have any questions, feel free to email me!

This year, the students will be completing a Genius Hour Project on a topic that they are passionate about or something new they would like to learn about.  The link to the left will give you more information about what this project is and how it is completed so please take a look!

Kidblog is a blogging site that students can use to complete assignments and communicate with peers.  This year, we are going to use this as a writing portfolio for both FLA and ELA.  This will allow us to monitor our progress throughout the year on how we use the Traits of writing.

FreshGrade is an amazing program that we are going to use to create digital portfolios!  Students will be able to add the work they have completed in different subject areas along with the rubrics.  We can use this to monitor progress and ensure that students are on the right track!  The link to the left will give you more information on what this program can do.

You all probably know mathletics by now!  We are going to use this throughout the school year to support the content that we are learning in the classroom.  We will also be using this for Math Olympics.  The students will be placed in groups and must collect as many gold bars as possible throughout the school year.  Hopefully this incentive allows students to be a little more motivated!

Project Possibilities!

Here are a variety of programs and website creators that the students will have the opportunity to use to create projects throughout the school year.  We will use one at a time to start so that students can familiarize themselves and become comfortable using these.  As confidence grows, i begin giving students a choice as to which one they like and which one they want to use.
